Many people have applications for U.S. sponsorship but are unsure about the current status of U.S. consulate processing, or how much longer it will be before their application is scheduled for an interview.
In the following article, ImmiPath will reveal the latest 2024 U.S. immigration schedule, helping you stay updated with visa bulletin news and priority dates for your green card visa interview, so you can prepare effectively.
1. Overview of the Latest U.S. Immigration Schedule for January 2024
Each month, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announces whether applicants living in the U.S. should file for “adjustment of status” based on the “Final Action Date” or the “Date of Filing.”
For January 2024, family-based applicants must use the “Date of Filing” (available on the Department of State’s website), while employment-based applicants must use the “Final Action Date” (also available on the Department of State’s website).
The January 2024 Visa Bulletin has seen significant changes for the F2A category (Spouses and Unmarried Children (under 21) of U.S. Green Card holders) and the F-3 category (U.S. citizens sponsoring married children over 21).
Due to an increasing backlog in these categories, the “Final Action Date” for F2A cases is no longer “current” for the first time in several years. The “Final Action Date” refers to applications with priority dates that have passed and are now eligible for adjudication.
Although the “Final Action Date” is no longer current, the “Date of Filing” remains valid for the F2A category, meaning that spouses and unmarried children of U.S. Green Card holders can still submit their green card applications at this time.
However, even though applications can be submitted, these cases will NOT be adjudicated until their priority date becomes current.
This change is likely to significantly increase the waiting time for F2A green cards. ImmiPath will continue to closely monitor this development and provide updates in the future.

If you are waiting to receive your green card, it is crucial to monitor real-time changes (and potential future developments) through the Visa Bulletin and check the latest U.S. immigration schedule.
We recommend preparing all necessary documents for your green card application in advance so you can promptly file your application when your priority date approaches the time for an interview.
By not delaying your application while your green card is available, you can avoid the risk of facing unexpected retrogression in the next Visa Bulletin, which could affect your ability to apply for the green card.
